Understanding COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, is a long-term lung disease that limits airflow and can make breathing difficult. It includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Diagnosis and management belong with a pulmonologist or primary care clinician and may involve prescribed medication, pulmonary rehabilitation, vaccination, smoking cessation support, and oxygen when medically indicated.

Cellular and regenerative approaches are being researched, but they are not established treatment for COPD. The FDA specifically warns that regenerative medicine products promoted for pulmonary disease may be unapproved and may expose patients to risk. Nothing discussed here replaces inhalers, rehabilitation, oxygen, or urgent evaluation when breathing worsens.

Our consultation reviews your diagnosis, current respiratory care, recent stability, and goals. A licensed provider explains the limits of the evidence and decides whether any supportive assessment is appropriate. Many people will not be eligible. If you still smoke, stopping remains the single change with the largest effect on how COPD progresses, and a provider will raise it.

If your breathing suddenly worsens, your lips or fingertips turn blue, you cannot finish a sentence, or you become confused or unusually drowsy, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a consultation. If your breathing difficulty began after a COVID infection, our Long COVID Supportive Care page covers overlapping ground, and other pulmonary diagnoses are covered on Lung Diseases.

Potential Benefits

The consultation may help you:

  • A structured review of your COPD history, your prescribed respiratory care, and your recent stability
  • A plain account of why no regenerative product is FDA approved for COPD and what the research has not shown
  • Screening for factors that affect eligibility, including recent exacerbations, oxygen use, and smoking status
  • Questions to discuss with your pulmonologist or primary care clinician
  • A practical next step if a licensed provider recommends further assessment

Who May Benefit

An assessment may make sense for people including:

  • People with a confirmed COPD diagnosis who remain under pulmonary care
  • Individuals whose breathing has been clinically stable and who want to discuss research questions
  • People preparing questions for a pulmonologist or primary care visit
  • Adults who understand that established COPD care must continue
  • People able to complete a medical screening and share a current medication list

Therapies a Provider May Consider

Every option is reviewed individually after your history, current care, and goals are understood.

What the Research Looks At

COPD has established diagnostic and management pathways. Research on cellular and regenerative approaches remains experimental, and no exosome product is FDA approved for COPD. These references provide condition guidance, regulatory context, and registered-study information.

Start With an Assessment

Every visit begins with a consultation and a medical screening. A licensed provider decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Nothing offered here is a cure or an approved treatment for COPD. The purpose of the consultation is to review your history, explain the limits of current research, and decide whether any supportive assessment is appropriate.
No. We do not take over diagnosis, disease management, rehabilitation, or prescribed medication. Anything discussed here sits alongside the care provided by your existing clinical team.
COPD is one of the most heavily advertised conditions in that market, and the FDA has published a consumer alert about regenerative medicine products promoted for conditions including lung disease. Ask any clinic which registered study its protocol sits under and who reviews it. A price quoted before any assessment is a warning sign on its own.
Unstable breathing, a recent exacerbation, oxygen dependence, or COPD that is not currently managed by a pulmonologist or primary care clinician. In this care area the answer is no more often than yes, and being told that no further step is appropriate is a normal outcome of an honest assessment.
Hitech Regen serves Southern California. Availability and suitability are discussed during the consultation before any visit is scheduled.
Cost is discussed after a licensed provider determines whether anything is appropriate to consider. We do not quote a condition-specific plan before the assessment.
